Giorgio Armani’s life is a true story of success: started out in fashion as a window dresser, the maestro has gone on to become Italy's most successful designer. Armani launched his menswear label in 1974 and his first womenswear a year later, then in 1980 he cemented in the public imagination for dressing Richard Gere in American Gigolo, with his soft-shouldered suit silhouette remaining a staple of today's designs.
